Design And Construction Of Noise Detector In Library

ABSTRACT

This project is titled design and construction of a noise detector in library. Noise detector in library is an electrical device that turns ON an alarm whenever noise is detected. The most important feature of the noise detector in library is its small microphone. The microphone detects sound, such as laughs, slamming doors, and claps of hands. The sound is changed into electrical waves. The electrical waves are magnified by a transistor. The transistor feeds the amplified sound to a flip-flop circuit. The flip-flop reverses the output and feeds another amplified circuit. The amplified circuit is connected to a buzzer which blows alarm.

CHAPTER ONE

  • INTRODUCTION

1.1      BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Library is a place within a school or state where students, staff, and often, parents of a public or private school have access to a variety of resources. The goal of the school library media center is to ensure that all members of the school community have equitable access “to books and reading, and to information.

Library is the place of peace and silence where students get opportunity to study and view different reference materials. Peace and silence is the most important feature of library. But many times students don’t give much attention to it and consider it to be the normal place. So students make noise in library and ruin its attribute. So taking this issue into consideration, a simple electronic device was designed that can solve this problem. This project is for the design and construction of the NOISE DETECTOR IN LIBRARY. This device is able to detect the noise, compare the intensity of louder sound and hence producing the warning signal to the librarian. This system is very economical and helpful in maintaining peace in library.

1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The objective of this project is to design and construct a noise activated alarm circuit that can be used to monitor the school library. It gives an indication to the librarian whenever there is noise in the library.

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of the project is to maintain the quietness of the library through an electronics device. This noise detector alarm circuit comprising a sound amplifier and a flip flop is presented here.

1.4 APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

This device can be used in both in school and states libraries or anywhere noise is been monitored.

In industries, sound activated switch is used to control an alarm and time of danger when the security of any place in industries is needed, and also used to monitor intruders in any given environment by activating an alarm when the noise of the intruder gets to the microphone of the system. It can be used to switch on/off any electrical appliances.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This study exposes me to the function of a microphone such as that microphone converts the pressure waves caused by sound into vibrations within a coil which transforms the vibrations into electric signals.

This work also exposed me to application of transistor such as using transistor as a switch and also application of a relay such as relay is also used as a switch as well to control load.

Finally, this work mostly exposed me to how to construct this system and also exposed me to know the applications of the system such as: homes, noise activated switch is as used to control a lamp in our rooms and environs.

In industries, noise activated switch is used to control an alarm and time of danger when the security of any place in industries is needed, and also used to monitor intruders in any given environment by activating an alarm when the noise of the intruder gets to the microphone of the system.

1.6 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The only problem we discovered in this work is that the device’s alarm can cause distraction to the users of the library whenever noise is been detected.

1.7 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

In this project we have designed a technology to detect the noise and produce the output according to the intensity of noise made. When the sound exceeds the threshold, it is considered as noise which in turn triggers the timer and an output is seen in the LED.

1.8 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION

The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:

Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to a noise detector. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of a noise detector were discussed.

Chapter two is on literature review of a noise detector. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.

Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.

Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.

Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
