Design And Construction Of An Electronic Billboards

ABSTRACT

An electronics billboard advertisements are designed to catch a person’s attention and create a memorable impression very quickly, leaving the reader thinking about the advertisement after they have driven past it. They have to be readable in a very short time because they are usually read while being passed at high speeds. Thus there are usually only a few words, in large print, and a humorous or arresting image in brilliant color.

Electronics billboard is a billboard that is created from computer programs and software. Electronics billboards can be designed to display running text, display several different displays from the same company, and even provide several companies a certain time slot during the day. The constantly changing texts ensure maximum impact and wide exposure to target audiences.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Billboard is a large outdoor advertising structure, typically found in high-traffic areas such as alongside busy roads. Billboards present large advertisements to passing pedestrians and drivers. Typically showing large, ostensibly witty slogans, and distinctive visuals, billboards are highly visible in the top designated market areas.

The largest standard-size billboards, known as Bulletins, are located primarily on major highways, expressways or principal arterials, and command high-density consumer exposure (mostly to vehicular traffic). Bulletins afford greatest visibility due not only to their size, but because they allow creative “customizing” through extensions and embellishments.

Posters are the other common form of billboard advertising, located mostly along primary and secondary major roads. Posters are a smaller format than bulletins and are viewed principally by residents and commuter traffic, with some pedestrian exposure.

Digital billboards are used to deliver advertising and informational messages to people who are passing by the displays. Unlike LCD monitors used on laptops and smartphones, digital billboards use clusters of highly efficient, very bright light emitting diodes (LEDs) to display full-color imagery. Depending on regulatory and technical considerations, this content may be a series of static slides, a broadcast-quality video or animation sequence, or a combination of both.

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

Advertisements are made to pass information about a particular product or services to the public which is usually done via individual, newspaper, television, radio, internet etc. All this method of passing information are not 100% effective in that it can only benefit those seated watching, listening or reading the information – which is a problem. In order to solve this problem, an electronics billboard was invented. An electronics billboards present large advertisements to passing pedestrians and drivers. Billboard advertisements are designed to catch a person’s attention and create a memorable impression very quickly, leaving the reader thinking about the advertisement after they have driven past it

1.3                                  AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

AIM

The main aim of this project is to display digital images that are changed by a computer every few seconds.

OBJECTIVE

At the end of this project, students involved shall be able to design an electronics billboard and at the same time understand the workings of the project

1.4                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Billboard advertisements are designed to catch a person’s attention and create a memorable impression very quickly, leaving the reader thinking about the advertisement after they have driven past it. They have to be readable in a very short time because they are usually read while being passed at high speeds. The objective of this work is on a digital device (billboard) can be used to display running text, display several different displays in form of advertisement.

1.5                                                        METHODOLOGY

To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  1. Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  2. Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  1. programming of microcontroller
  2. Design and calculation for the work was carried out.
  3. Studying of various component used in circuit.
  • Construct the whole circuit.
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

1.6                                                         PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.

CHAPTER TWO

2.0                                                    LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1                             HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF BILLBOARDS

Early billboards were basically large posters on the sides of buildings, with limited but still appreciable commercial value. As roads and highways multiplied, the billboard business thrived
