Design And Construction Of An Electric Bicycle

ABSTRACT

The main aim of this review paper is to present the idea of harnessing the various energy and use it in today’s existence of human life .Now-a-days there are so many vehicles on road, conventional bicycle which is pedal operated requires much human effort to operate it.  Taking this into consideration it is our small step towards reducing the use of more human strength and attract  the  eye of people towards its alternatives i.e. Electric bicycle. So we intend to  design a  cycle which would run on an alternative source  and  also  reducing  human efforts called as Battery Operated Cycle.  In  this paper we design an alternative mode of transport for betterment of social and environment.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                                         BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

The electric bicycle is an electrical-assisted device that is designed to deliver the electromagnetic momentums to a present bicycle therefore relieving the user  of producing the energy essential to run the bicycle. It contains a strong motor and enough battery power that just  needs  charging  to  help  in  hill  climbing, generate greater motoring speeds and provide completely free electric transportation. Electric vehicles price more and perform poorer than their gasoline counterparts. The aim is that mainly because gasoline cars have promoted from a century of intensive development; electric cars have been virtually overlooked for several years. Even today, gasoline cars profit from billions of dollars of research every year while  electric  vehicles  receive  a small  fraction  of that quantity  of  money.  The  primary principle  for  the   Universities‟   support    of    the   electric- powered  over  the   petrol   powered   has   been towards improving air quality, though air quality alone is not a satisfactory justification to mandate electric bicycles. The single biggest advantage of electric  bicycle is that it is cost operative as it mainly only entails building cost as running cost would only require the charging of the battery. An Electric bicycle would, however  offer  other  solid  benefits  that  are overlooked by the marketplace. These include the intense reduction in oil consumption that its widespread use would bring about. Much  less  oil  would  be  needed because only a tiny proportion of electricity is generated from oil. The further major non-market benefit would be lower greenhouse gas emissions.

1.2                                   PROBLEM STATEMENT

In today’s modernized world travelling is very essential for human beings in order to protract in this world. And to do so his travelling should be done in minimum possible way. This project details about the electric bicycle which runs on the battery thereby providing voltage to the motor. This project compromises with design and fabrication of Electric bicycle which makes use of Electric energy as the primary source. The electrical power generated which is used to run the bicycle can give better movement compared to conventional vehicle.

1.3                                    AIM OF THE PROJECT

The main aim of this study is to build a bicycle which runs on the battery thereby providing voltage to the motor that moves the wheel using sprocket and chain.

1.4                          SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

E-bikes use rechargeable batteries that can travel up to 25 to 45 km/h, much faster than most people would cycle, getting you to your destination quicker and in better shape. In a nutshell they offer low cost, energy efficient, and emission-free transportation which also has physical and health benefits.

1.5                              LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

The autonomy of the lithium batteries (lead batteries are hardly used any longer because of their weight and contamination) is around 35 to 60 km, although this can vary depending on how the motor is used, rider weight, etc. Some batteries can last for up to 140 km.

1.6                                  SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The system which we innovated is the electric bicycle. This project has various benefits both to the members of the team and also external benefits thereby making awareness of using alternative modes of transport. The Electric Bike which works on the battery that is powered by the motor is the general mode of transport for a local trip. The Electric bicycle  which will be running on battery, the power is supplied by the motor, thereby supplying this power to drive the other gear components.

1.7                               PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The main purpose of using this electric bicycle is that it is user friendly, economical and relatively cheap. The efficiency of this system undeniable compared to conventional modes of transport. Electric bicycle comprises the features like high mobility efficiency, compact, electrically powered, comfortable riding experience, light weight vehicle.

1.8                                             RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

In the course of carrying this study, numerous sources were used which most of them are by visiting libraries, consulting journal and news papers and online research which Google was the major source that was used.

1.9                                     PROJECT ORGANIZATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work,   chapter two presents the literature review of the study,  chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
