Design And Construction Of An Automatic Fragrance Dispenser/ Automatic Deodorant Dispenser

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                          INTRODUCTION

1.1                            BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Air fresheners are consumer products that typically emit fragrance and are used in homes or commercial interiors such as restrooms, foyers, hallways, vestibules and other smaller indoor areas, as well as larger areas such as hotel lobbies, auto dealerships, medical facilities, public arenas and other large interior spaces. There are many different methods and brands of air fresheners. Some of the different types of air fresheners include electric fan air fresheners, gravity drip hygiene odor control cleaning systems, passive non-mechanical evaporating aroma diffusers, metered aerosol time-operated mist dispensers, sprays, candles, oils, gels, beads, and plug-ins. Some air fresheners contain chemicals that provoke allergy and asthma symptoms or are toxic. Air freshening is not only limited to modern day sprays, air freshening also can involve the use of organic and everyday house hold items. Although air fresheners are primarily used for odor elimination, some people use air fresheners for the pleasant odors they emit.

Traditionally, air refresher comes in liquid form which is applied to the desired places by manually pressing the mechanical node or by sprinkling, and another form of air refreshner comes in block or solid form which is applied by dropping it in a desired place. However, this two types of air refresher has disadvantage in that it involves human labour which also consumes time before it is been applied. In other to overcome these problems an automatic means of applying air refresher is invented – automatic fragrance dispenser.

An automatic fragrance dispenser is an air freshener designed to release the encapsulated scent at a set time, or under preset conditions. Some fresheners operate by releasing a quick burst of scent every minute, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes so that you don’t become too accustomed to the smell. Other kinds operate by having a light sensor or motion sensor attached, and releasing a burst of fragrance whenever this sensor is tripped. An automatic fragrance dispenser (AFD) is comprised of two equally important sections. The first one is the “fragrance engine” — a combination of a standard processor cooling fan and an air freshener. The second one is the “controller” — a passive infrared motion-sensor-based fan switcher built around a handful of inexpensive components.

1.2                                    AIM OF THE PROJECT

The main aim of this work is to build a device that has the capacity to automatically release the encapsulated scent at a set time, or under preset conditions.

1.3                                   PROBLEM STATEMENT

This device has advantages that overcome the problem of traditional air refresher such as:

  • Automatic timed dispensing
  • Keep the environment refresh all time
  • Cancels the human labour and time involve in applying traditional air refreshner.

1.4                            LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

  1. the only problem seen in this work is that it is cost effective more than the traditional air refresher.

1.5                           APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

Automatic air refresher is used in homes or commercial interiors such as restrooms, foyers, hallways, vestibules and other smaller indoor areas, as well as larger areas such as hotel lobbies, auto dealerships, medical facilities, public arenas and other large interior spaces.

1.6                                  SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

This device is a touch-free, sensor-controlled fragrance dispenser can be supplied directly with a standard 9-V (6F22) battery. This little AFD fans a fresh scent through the air and can be placed on walls, on stands, in hallways, and in public restrooms.

1.7                                         METHODOLOGY

To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  1. Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  2. Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  1. Design and calculation for the device was carried out.
  2. Studying of various component used in circuit.
  3. Construction of the device circuit.
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

1.8                                                         PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
