ABSTRACT
This work is on rechargeable standing fan. The project involves using mains power supply to recharge power standing fan. Rechargeable standing fan, charges with mains power supply, then the charged battery is used to run the fan when there is power outage.
Remote part of this device enables the user to operate a fan regulator from approximately 10 meters away. However, with this device one can change the speed of the fan from your couch or bed. The device would allow a person to control the speed of a fan by simply pointing the remote towards a sensor and then pressing any key. Infrared receiver module TSOP1738 is used to receive the infrared signal transmitted by remote control.
The system was broken down into simpler functional blocks namely; infra-red transmitter, infra-red sensor, signal amplifier, control logic, sampler, control stepper, output control logic, load and display unit. Details of each subunit are described in the paper. The system is powered by regulated 9V. The AC mains is stepped down by transformer X1 to deliver a secondary output of 12V-0-12V. The transformer output is rectified by full-wave rectifier comprising diodes D1 and D2, filtered by capacitor C9 and regulated by 7809 regulator to provide 9V regulated output.
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The electric fan was one of the most important electric inventions of all time. The fan is a building block of other more advanced technologies. Fans are necessary in computers, lasers, large LED lights, petrol and electric automobiles, the space station and countless other things. The fan as used in this work allows humans to build giant or underground buildings. It would be hard to imagine a world without the electric fan!
The electric fan has blades similar to a water or steam turbine. A DC drives a rotating shaft. Sizes of fans have gotten much smaller and lighter over the years. As engineers improved the electric motor and blade design they figured out how to get more performance out of a design that uses less copper and steel.
Rechargeable standing fan can help maintain humidity levels, protect various rooms of your house from stagnant air, and even help you sleep better at night. And that’s just the beginning. The blades force air either in or out of the room you’re trying to cool or ventilate.
Remote control facilitates the operation of fan regulators around the home or office from a distance. It provides a system that is simple to understand and also to operate, a system that would be cheap and affordable, a reliable and easy to maintain system of remote control and durable system irrespective of usage. It adds more comfort to everyday living by removing the inconvenience of having to move around to operate a fan regulator. The system seeks to develop a system that is cost effective while not under mining the need for efficiency.
1.1 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The objective of the work is to design and construct rechargeable standing fan which is powered by rechargeable battery when there is power outage. The remote control that is portable in size and a receiver that responds only to the infra-red signal transmitted by the remote control. The system responds favorable and automatically changes the fan speed. The receiver-transmitter maximum distance is approximately 10m; this is the range of the transmission of the infra-red diode used. It was noted that the receiver unit was able to receive signal propagated of the distance within the range.
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJCET
After knowing in detail what a rechargeable standing fan is and how different useful it is to make appliances work at residential and industrial levels students should also know the advantages.

- This work provides a means of control ceiling fan speed from a distance using remote. The device would allow a person to control the speed of a fan by simply pointing the remote towards a sensor and then pressing any key. Now you can lie in your bed or sit on the sofa and conveniently operate your fan. You don’t need to or have to get up. Besides, you now have extra functions that were not possible with the conventional fan regulators. It is cheap and consumes less current, this system uses from 5v to 12v dc supply while the remote uses two AAA battery.
- The 5-speed ceiling fan remote control allows you stay away from your ceiling fan’s regulator and conveniently operate it. Even from a significant distance away. this fan remote control works up to a distance of 8 meters! Then think of this, especially if you use a pre-paid PHCN meter: your fans will never come on just because PHCN brought power in your absence and you had left their switches in ‘on’ position. With this control system, a fan has to be deliberately put on. It doesn’t come on just with the return of power supply. Consider how much energy you waste when fans are forgotten in ‘on’ position when power outage occurs and they just get working when power returns, often in your absence.
1.3 LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
- Initially you need to shell out a lot of money for buying a battery and fan.
- It will work effectively and produce direct current only when the battery is fully charge.
1.4 APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT
1. Cool Down your Room (and yourself)
Perfect for more moderate climates, electric fans are a very inexpensive way to cool almost any room in your home. They can also be quite refreshing, as they circulate cool air throughout the room.
