Design And Construction Of A Canister Vacuum Cleaner

ABSTRACT

Cleaning has became a basic need of all the human beings. Throughout the world many researchers are conducting experiments in order to eradicate and solve the dust removing process. There should be improvision with innovative ideas and techniques which may ensure good health. If a an equipment is developed it should be eco friendly with its usage. All the designer people should be aware of its affects and advantages in preparing a particular equipment. It’s a great task in order to improve the quality and standards of a particular equipment for its better usage. It should be designed by keeping the ergonomic aspects. Not removing but also deodorizing that particular environment also is needed. Here in this paper it describes the dust removal principle and its working which has been prepared by the scrap materials for the domestic purpose only with low cost expenditure.

A vacuum pump sucks out all the air and blows out fresh with deodorizer. This paper also aims at a fabricating a small prototype which uses DC motor to remove the dust and to make clean and hygienic environment and thus avoids health inequalities and safety concerns with regards to workers as well as common people.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

A vacuum cleaner, also known as a sweeper or hoover, is a device that uses an air pump (a centrifugal fan in all but some of the very oldest models), to create a partial vacuum to suck up dust and dirt, usually from floors, and from other surfaces such as upholstery and draperies.

The dirt is collected by either a dustbag or a cyclone for later disposal. Vacuum cleaners, which are used in homes as well as in industry, exist in a variety of sizes and models—small battery-powered hand-held devices, wheeled canister models for home use, domestic central vacuum cleaners, huge stationary industrial appliances that can handle several hundred litres of dust before being emptied, and self-propelled vacuum trucks for recovery of large spills or removal of contaminated soil. Specialized shop vacuums can be used to suck up both dust and liquids.

There are wide variety of technologies, designs, and configurations are available for both domestic and commercial cleaning jobs. However, for the case of the work , we are focusing on canister type vacuum pump.

Canister vacuums often provide better suction than upright models and generally last longer. The long metal hoses found on canister vacuums work well for cleaning upholstery, stairs and draperies and even reach under sofas and beds. Some canister models offer a hard surface setting that turns the beater bar off, which is an important feature if you want to clean hardwood or tile floors because the beater bar may dent or damage these surfaces. One drawback to canister vacuums is that they may seem more cumbersome to use than uprights. The vacuum bags are small, requiring frequent replacement.

1.1                                             OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

This work aims at a fabricating a small prototype which uses DC motor to remove the dust and to make clean and hygienic environment and thus avoids health inequalities and safety concerns with regards to workers as well as common people and mechanical engineering laboratory.

1.2                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

In sectors such as healthcare, where hygiene and contamination are of paramount importance a vacuum cleaner with a built in multilevel filtration system to control particulate biological contamination would be the best option. Other areas where an industrial vacuum cleaner could be used include

  • Woodworking where a large tub vacuum keeps the working environment dust free
  • Engineering to clean swarf and other by products from machines and the floor
  • Warehouses removing dust and grime created by forklifts, people and pallets, also dealing with spillages both dry and liquid.

There are many industries that can benefit from the advantages of a vacuum cleaner and people may be unaware of their robustness and flexibility.

1.3                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Single and three phase vacuum cleaners for separate or simultaneous collection of solid and liquid materials. vacuum cleaners are designed to collect both small and large quantities of waste, ensuring continuous operation whenever required.

Explosion-proof executions, compressed-air operation, absolute filtration: can be used in explosion-hazardous environments or in the presence of harmful and toxic substances.

1.4                                               BENEFIT OF THE PROJECT

Canister vacuums have a large, rounded and compact body. They come with a flexible hose that is ideal for cleaning under and around pieces of furniture in the house. Some brands have an extendable hose that can reach farther across the room; this feature allows more areas cleaned in a few minutes. These vacuums also have a telescopic wand where you can attach the accessory tools. These on-board tools are upholstery attachments, crevice tool and dusting brush; they are effective in cleaning hard-to-reach areas such as edges, stairs, upholstery and drapery.

Another great thing about canister vacuums is the weight. Compared to upright vacuums, canister vacuum cleaners are undeniably lightweight. They also come with a carrying handle that adds ease in transporting them. The large wheels and superior manoeuvrability contribute to a hassle-free housecleaning.

Home care companies that manufacture this type of vacuums have added special features to their products. Among the features that offer many benefits are the filtration system, bagless technology, variable suction and speed control settings.

The amazing thing about a filtration system is that it traps in allergens, dust and dirt. Household members with asthma or allergies benefit greatly from this feature found in most canister vacuums. These filters improve the quality of air indoors, thus inhibiting allergy symptoms or asthma attacks.

Some canister vacuums are bagless. This feature is beneficial in certain ways. It is economical because there is no need to regularly purchase and replace vacuum bags. Sucked up dirt and dust go straight to the filter. This storage is quite easy to empty, washable and reusable. However, owners should replace the filter once it is damaged, which in some cases occur after a year or so. The only drawback of bagless vacuums is that filters cost much more than vacuum bags.

Canister vacuums also have variable suction and speed control settings. These features allow you to choose the kind of suction when cleaning different surfaces. By controlling the suction and speed, you can take care of carpets and rugs made from delicate materials. These features also work great when cleaning sections in the house with the most dirt and need powerful suction.

A canister vacuum offers a number of benefits that make it staple on every home. The amazing features such as its portability, durability, and excellent performance make them a constant favourite in the household. It is also easy to store, particularly the ones that allow you to wrap and compress the hose on a holder. You do not need to worry about tangled cords and bulky vacuum cleaners. This feature makes a canister vacuum perfect for small homes and those with stairs. Because this type of vacuum cleaner is lightweight (it comes with a carrying handle!), you can easily transport it up and down the stairs. Moreover, this vacuum cleaner is typically inexpensive. Considering the numerous benefits that a canister vacuum offers, you will surely get great value for your money.
