Design And Construction A Medicine Reminder System

ABSTRACT

In this busy and competition world we cannot monitoring our patients continuously even though we have so much of love on them. By using advancements in present technologies we are developing this project to save time and user friendly system. The user has to press the respective button to get his service, and then the predefined message will be played through speaker. In general, most of the patients forget to take the appropriate medical course at appropriate times. There may be chances that they remember to take the pills at regular times but forget the pill which has to be taken at that particular time. This is a big problem and it is also difficult to doctors to monitor patients always. And also, mostly in the hospitals, it is not an easy and available service to employ a nurse to a single patient exclusively. To avoid these problems, we have implemented this project which can remind the patient about the intake of medicines at regular time intervals and also sends the information to the doctor about the patient if the temperature or the heartbeat exceeds the normal set point. This project is designed mainly for patients or old aged people.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                                             BACKGROUND OF PROJECT

Giving care and health assistance to the bed ridden patients at critical stages with advanced medical facilities have become one of the major problems in the modern hectic world. In hospitals where a large number of patients whose physical conditions have to be monitored frequently as a part of diagnostic procedure,  the  need  for  a  cost  effective  and fast responding alert mechanism is inevitable. Proper implementation of such systems can provide timely warnings to the medical staffs and doctors and their service can be activated in case of medical emergencies. Present-day systems use sensors that are hardwired to a PC next to the bed. The use of sensors detects the conditions of the patient and the data is collected and transferred using a microcontroller. Doctors and nurses need to visit the patient frequently to examine his/her current condition. In addition to this, use of multiple microcontroller based intelligent system provide high level applicability in hospitals where a large number of patients have to be frequently monitored.

Patients forget to take the appropriate medical course at appropriate times. There may be chances that they remember to take the pills at regular times but forget the pill which has to be taken at that particular time. This is a big problem and it is also difficult to doctors to monitor patients always. Mostly in the hospitals, it is not an easy and available service to employ a nurse to a single patient exclusively. We have implemented this project which can remind the patient about the intake of medicines at regular time intervals and also sends the information to the doctor about the patient if the temperature or the heartbeat exceeds the normal set point

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

In the past, higher percentage of patient’s death is caused as a result of hospital authorities unaware of their patient’s immediate health condition such as patients with heart disease and temperature. And also some patients due to their health condition forget to take the appropriate medical course at appropriate times. their doctor. This is one of the reasons nurses are assigned to monitor their patients’ health condition from time to time and a family member will be assigned to remind them of their dosages. Carrying out these assignments by human beings is always a difficult task. This device was designed to bring solution to this problem. It reminds the patient about the intake of medicines at regular time intervals and also sends the information to the doctor about the patient if the temperature or the heartbeat exceeds the normal set point.

1.3                                  AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

To develop a cheap prototype of a system that can remind the patient about the intake of medicines at regular time intervals and also sends the information to the doctor about the patient if the temperature or the heartbeat exceeds the normal set point.

Specific objectives of the study are:

  1. To use temperature sensor to measure body temperature
  2. To use heartbeat temperature to measure rate of heartbeat
  • To alert through alarm whenever there is an abnormal parameter and time for taking pills
  1. To reduce labour thereby saving lives of patients.

1.4                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This technology enables doctor to monitor the patient’s conditions even sitting in his room. Doctor will get alert whenever patient’s body temperature and heart beat rises so that he can take precautionary. Patient care takers can monitor the equipment easily

1.5                                                   SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this study covers building a device which can remind the patient about the intake of medicines at regular time intervals and also sends the information to the doctor about the patient if the temperature or the heartbeat exceeds the normal set point. These parameters are monitored using sensors where are interfaced to a microcontroller

1.6                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

  1. The system is very useful in hospitals as well as in house as it can be installed anywhere very easily.
  2. It can be used in the hospitals to remind patients about their medications
  • To monitor health of the elderly people.

1.7                                         METHODOLOGY

To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  1. Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  2. Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  1. Design of the device was carried out.
  2. Studying of various component used in circuit.
  3. Construction of the circuit was carried out. The construction of this project includes the placing of components on Vero boards, soldering and connection of components,
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

 1.8                                                        JUSTIFICATION

This project is made of cheap materials. A complete system that measures temperature and heart beat is so far expensive. This system is fully automated system and does not require any human attention.

Automatic alert system using enabled by microcontroller gives intimation to user. The system determines the temperature and heart beat rate per minute and then sends a buzzer alert which also displays the parameter measured on a LCD. It is also cost effective and portable. It is easy to handle and efficient. It is not as complex as the current systems.

1.9                                                         PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work,   chapter two presents the literature review of the study,  chapter three describes the methods applied,  chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
