Construction Of A Tracking Device Using A GPS Module

ABSTRACT

Currently almost of the public having an own vehicle, theft is happening on parking and sometimes driving insecurity places. The safe of vehicles is extremely essential for public vehicles.

Vehicle tracking and locking system installed in the vehicle, to track the place and locking engine motor.

The place of the vehicle identified using Global Positioning system (GPS) and Global system mobile communication (GSM). These systems constantly watch a moving Vehicle and report the status on demand. When the theft identified, the responsible person send SMS to the microcontroller, then microcontroller issue the control signals to stop the engine motor. Authorized person need to send the  password to controller to restart the vehicle and open the door. This is more secured, reliable and low cost.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                            INTRODUCTION

1.1                               BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In the last few decades, India has progressed at such an enormous rate that many companies have strongly established themselves here. These companies bring a huge amount of workforce with them. Arranging transportation to such a huge mass is a cumbersome task involving many intricacies [1]. Generally, this transport is arranged through the local transport vendors on a yearly contract basis, recently happen mishaps such as burglary, rape cases etc. The development of satellite communication technology is easy to identify the vehicle locations. Vehicle tracking  systems have brought this technology to the day-to-day life of the common person [4].

Today GPS used in cars, ambulances, fleets and police vehicles are common sights on the roads of developed countries. All the existing technology support tracking the vehicle place and status. The GPS/GSM Based System is one of the most important systems, which integrate both GSM and GPS technologies. It is necessary due to the many of applications of both GSM and GPS systems and the wide usage of them by millions of people throughout the world. This system designed for users in land construction and transport business, provides real-time information such as location, speed and expected arrival time of the user is moving vehicles in a concise and easy-to-read format [3]. This system may also useful for communication process among the two points.

Currently GPS vehicle tracking ensures their safety as travelling. This vehicle tracking system found in clients vehicles as a theft prevention and rescue device.

Vehicle owner or Police follow the signal emitted by the tracking system to locate a robbed vehicle in parallel the stolen vehicle engine speed going to  decreased and pushed to off. After switch of the engine, motor cannot restart without permission of password.

This system installed for the four wheelers, Vehicle tracking usually used in navy operators for navy management functions, routing, send off, on board information and security. The applications include monitoring driving performance of a parent with a teen driver. Vehicle tracking systems accepted in consumer vehicles as a theft prevention and retrieval device. If the theft identified, the system sends the SMS to the vehicle owner. After that vehicle owner sends the SMS to the controller, issue the necessary signals to stop the motor. In this paper, the reviewed related technology.

1.2                                     STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The global issue related to a constantly increasing crime rate needs to be urgently addressed by both developed and developing countries. In Nigeria, 2,000 cases of car theft in average are reported each year in [Nairaland.com, 2011], and the number is still increasing. If not recovered soon, stolen vehicles are generally sold, revamped or even burned if the resale price is considered to be too low. Once a vehicle is stolen, it becomes hard to locate it and track it, which considerably decreases the chances of recovering it. In this work, we propose the design and implementation of a car tracking anti-theft system that will protect, secure vehicles. More so, the bad culture of private and commercial drivers accompanied with the poor roads and road trafficking in the country has in time increases the rate of casualties on the road so rapidly, 35% of death rate in Nigeria was caused by Vehicle accident and road casualties in the year 2016. This project is focused mainly to increase the chances of survival for the victims of these causalities as introduced earlier.

1.3                       AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The development of vehicle tracking system using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) modem is undertaken with the aim of enabling users to locate their vehicles with ease and in a convenient manner.

Objectives of this project are:
1) To study and investigate the basic operation of the GPS module.
2) To design the GPS/GSM and Push button based on the system.
3) To ensure design perfection through simulation and breadboard layout.
4) To implement the designed system on a hardware prototype.
5) To analyze the efficiency of the developed system.

1.4                             SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

These gsm and gps tracking system for cars project significantly reduce the time, manpower and operates without interference of humanoid.

1.5                                  PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

Mobile communication has been integrated into the vehicles for security purpose. The main purpose of this work is to reduce the rate of vehicle theft. In these projects GPS  technology is used to find the exact location of the vehicle and GSM is used to send the message to the owner of the vehicle.

1.6                   SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

Currently almost of the public having an own vehicle, theft is happening on parking and sometimes driving insecurity places. The safe of vehicles is extremely essential for public vehicles. Vehicle tracking and locking system installed in the vehicle, to track the place and locking engine motor. The place of the vehicle identified using Global Positioning system (GPS) and Global system mobile communication (GSM). Authorized person need to send the password to controller to restart the vehicle and open the door.

1.7                                                  MOTIVATION

The alarming rate of vehicle theft and road accidents was the major motivation for this project. I had been inspired to develop a solution since I was once a victim of a road accident. I believe this system if well implemented will help increase the chance of recovering stolen vehicles in essence increasing vehicle security. It also will increase the survival chance of accident victims through the accident alert system.

1.5                              APLLICATION OF THE PROJECT

This system designed for users in land construction and transport business, provides real-time information such as location, speed and expected arrival time of the user is moving vehicles in a concise and easy-to-read format. This system may also useful for communication process among the two points. Currently GPS vehicle tracking ensures their safety as travelling.
