Automated Poultry Machine That Packages Eggs According To Thier Weight

Many small and medium scale poultry owners do the process of weighing and packaging their egg manually. Small and Medium scale poultry production business owners who particularly produce egg has to do the weighing and packaging process manually. This process is very time and effort consuming and thus it limits their production as well as their business.

It is observed that the cheapest machine which would automate this process of weighing and packaging of egg’s costs. Automatic Weighing and Packaging which is priced at the rate mentioned is not affordable for small scale and medium scale poultry farmers.

This project aims to develop such a machine which automatically weighs and packs egg with the help of microcontroller (arduino) conveyor and sensors. The idea is to manually place egg, then automatic weighing and packaging is done. The purpose of doing this project is to reduce human efforts and time consumption. Decreasing machine cost is the major advantage of project. The machine design is based on simple conveyor mechanisms and it can be installed easily. The speed of packaging is increased thus resulting in more production and business. It will eradicate the traditional packing and weighing method. This process will reduce the number of paid workers.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION

1.1                                         BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Poultry farming is that the raising of domesticated birds like chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese for the aim of farming meat or eggs for food. Quite fifty billion chickens are raised annually as a supply of food, for each their meat and their eggs. Industrial hens typically begin birth eggs at 16-20 weeks aged, though production bit by bit declines presently once from some twenty five weeks aged. This implies that in several countries, by some seventy two weeks aged, flocks are thought of economically not feasible and are slaughtered once some twelve months of egg production, though chickens can naturally live for six or a lot of years. In some countries, hens are force to re-invigorate egg-laying.

In the last decade, when hens lay eggs, the poultry operator will manually bring out the egg and separate the eyes according to the size something will not mind the weight of the eggs. However, today the story has changed, the removal separation and packaging of eggs is now done automatically and this has led to commercially increase of eggs.

This trend in poultry production has been toward large commercial flocks. With this trend has come an increase in using of mechanization or automation to save time and labor, this includes automatic weighing and packaging of egg. The use of these types of equipments makes it possible for large number of eggs to be handled in the operation (Gillespie, 2002). These types of equipments are elucidated in this paper which is the aim of the project.

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

Traditionally, when eggs are laid in the poultry, it is the duty of the farm operator or the owner of the farm to remove, weigh and packages those egg that was laid, and this involves labour, wastes time, and provides low eggs production in the country. However, this device “Egg Grading and Packing Machine” came to overcome this problem. This machine collects laid egg, weighed it and moved it for packaging. The operation of this machine saves labor, time, and providing high efficiency.

1.3                                   AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The aim of this work is to provide an automatic means of weighing and packaging of eggs in poultry.

The literature survey carried at during course of work reveals that the weighing and packaging process needs to be simplified. It must not require a special skill-set to operate the machine.

The major objectives of the project are:

  1. To design a machine which provides weighing of eggs
  2. To design a machine which is easy to handle and which runs on simple mechanical
  • To create a mechanism this would deliver the packed product
  1. To create a machine which would be stable while operations

1.4                                              PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of this work is to recognize machine that serve the poultry enterprises, and to points out the innovations and the recent advances in poultry automation which work in poultry saving labor, time, and providing high efficiency.

1.5                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Working on this project has exposed my knowledge to the usefulness of automation in poultry such advantages are as follows:

i.                    This device make poultry work fast and easy

ii.                  It increases the commercialization of poultry business

iii.                It reduces the number of worker in the poultry thereby increases their economy.

1.8            LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

Problems that limit people from using this machine are as follows:

i.                    It is cost effective

ii.                  It requires some level of expertise

iii.                Difficult to maintain.

iv.               This machine is bulky and it consumes much electrical energy

1.8                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The entire weighing and packaging process is done with the help of electro pneumatics and motors. The control for the hardware is to be process by the programmable logic controller via the computer. The whole system executes the following processes:

  1. Automation using the microcontroller
  2. Filling of eggs into the create
  • Packaging
  1. Weighing

1.9                                                         PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
