With the support of ATM, though banking has been made easy, the chance of fraud are very high there has been countless number of mishap and misrepresentations which usually occur during transaction. This has given rise to a need for development of a system that would serve to protect the consumers from fraud and other breaches of security. Current ATM validation schemes are limited to access cards and PIN’S but this paper proposes incorporating as iris scanner and facial recognition system the system would take the user’s picture and attempt to match it to database images. As the picture is being captured, an iris scan is also carried out simultaneously. If a match is established, the transaction is approved and if not the user can only withdraw or transact a limited amount of money he/she had chosen registration at the bank.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The rise of technology into Nigera has brought into force many type of equipment that aim at more customer satisfaction.ATM is one such machine which made money transaction easy for customers to the bank. But it has both advantages and disadvantages. Current ATMs make use of naught more than an access card and PIN for uniqueness confirmation. [1]This has ATM Using Face Recognition System demonstrate the way to a lot of fake attempt and mistreatment through card theft, PIN theft, stealing and hacking of customers account details and other parts of security. This process would effectively become details and other part of security. This process would effectively become an exercise in pattern matching, which would not require a great deal of time.
For face recognition, there are two types of comparisons. The first is verification, this is where the system compares the given individual with who that individual says they are and gives a yes or no decision. The next one is identification this is where the system compares the given individual to all the other individuals in the database and gives a ranked list of matches. Face recognition technology analyzes the unique shape, pattern and positioning of the facial features. Face recognition is very complex technology and is largely software based.
1.2 AIM / OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The aim of this research is to design and develop a facial recognition application for Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) to reinforce security.
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
ATM security model that would increasing the performance combine a physical access card, a PIN, and face recognition to increase the reliability of ATM transactions.
- Finding the valid or invalid user and Avoiding the wrong person to accesses the ATM.
- Wrong person wearing mask and have any object he didn’t get cash and blocked
- Increase security – Provide a convenient and low-cost additional tier of security.
- Reduce fraud by employing hard-to-forge technologies and materials. For e.g. minimize the opportunity for ATM fraud.
- Eliminate problems caused by lost ATMs or forgotten passwords by using physiological attributes. For e.g. prevent unauthorized use of lost, stolen or “borrowed” ATM cards.
- Replace hard-to-remember secret digits which may be shared or observed.
- Make it possible, automatically, to know WHO did WHAT, WHERE and WHEN!
1.4 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
A facial recognition system is a computer application for automatically identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source. Proposed paper uses face recognition technique for verification in ATM system.
1.5 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The growth in the electronic transactions has resulted in a greater demand for fast and accurate user identification and authentication. User have been largely depending on and trusting the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) to conveniently meeting their banking needs . However, numerous advantages of ATM system, the ATM fraud has recently become more widespread. The purpose of the system is to avoid the ATM robberies and wrong person misusing the ATM.
1.6 LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
The only problem with this study is that it stop ATM owners from sending friends and family member from withdrawing for them most especially in time of emergency.
1.7 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:
Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to this study. In this chapter, the background, significance, scope, objective, limitation and problem, purpose of this work was discussed.
Chapter two is on literature review of the study. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.
Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the study were discussed.
Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.
Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
